The ultimate in reliability! This "non lock up" 48re race build is THE GO-TO for making laps! By eliminating the lock up function, this allows us to accomplish several things. 1st and foremost, ultimate consistency. Not having the shock load to the transmission and chassis when lock up applies means your race truck stays stuck to the track and makes the same run every time! This is especially valuable in index racing where the goal is to make the exact same pass every single time. 2nd, the use of a converter dump valve. With not having lock up clutches in the converter, we can now use an internal dump valve integrated into the valve body to drain off converter charge pressure when spooling. This raises the stall speed of the converter and makes it easier and quicker to spool. A game changer for large single and mechanical injected engines. The non lock up converter is 30lbs lighter than an extreme duty lock up converter. Thats not only 30lbs you're taking out of your race truck, that's 30lbs of rotating mass bolted directly to the crankshaft! Because of the lack of shock load from the lock up clutches, we are able to run the standard size Goerend input shaft to very high power levels, making this a more cost friendly transmission. For example we run this build in Jordan Newman's 5.70 index truck making nearly 1300hp at 4600lbs. He has ran a personal best of 5.62 @123mph. In JP Libert's truck we have ran this unit to an elapse time of 4.97 @143mph! Over 1800hp! Do not be afraid of converter efficiency with out lock up. We have stator and pump designs that have gone beyond 100% efficiency at the track! This combination works best in sub 5000lb trucks. This is a race only unit and is not intended for street use.
